Supporting Businesses

  • Helped 800 members improve their operations via 16 Business Success Seminars over 18 months!
  • Promoted more than 300 members in "News About Your Fellow Members" weekly communication.
  • Provided $48,000 in savings to members through exclusive Office Depot program.
  • Empowered 3,500 people to pursue their goals at business networking events.
  • Worked one-on-one to help members achieve their unique business goals.

Advocating for Businesses and our Economic Vitality

  • Testified 48 times during 2009 Legislative Session. Circulated Agenda for Economic Vitality.
  • Promoted business competitiveness and economic development through legislative achievements:
    • Helped prevent a 10% increase in workers comp costs.
    • Saved $612 in health premiums for every 4 persons insured, and prevented a flight of physicians out of Nevada, thanks to coalition efforts protecting med-mal reforms.
    • Worked with Highway Users Coalition to enact RTC-5, which combats traffic congestion, and creates 3,000 new jobs.
    • Protected businesses' right to collect outstanding debts. Collaborated to block a weight-distance tax. Helped limit payroll tax hike to 1.17% instead of 2%.
  • Co-chaired Reno panel that improved business-license process. Serving on similar statewide panel.
  • Connected Chamber members with leading public officials.

Promoting Our Region - Enhancing Our Quality of Life

  • Helped UNR win an energy efficiency grant; and City of Reno win a planning grant.
  • Partnered with RGJ on the "Thrive" campaign, providing more than $602,000 in free advertising.
  • Graduated 35 adults in Leadership Reno Sparks and celebrated program's 25th anniversary. Announced partnership with WCSD to enhance Youth Leadership program.
  • Revitalized the library at Florence Drake School in Sparks through 2009 Leadership class.
  • Held programs introducing WCSD Superintendent and TMCC President to community. Working with WCSD and business leaders on rollover bond issue. Awarded several college scholarships.
  • Support "Young Professionals Network" with donation and 4 LRS scholarships. Launched FaceBook page with 322 Friends to broaden communications.
  • Cleaned neighborhoods on quarterly basis to enhance our environment.
